The final competitions of the 2023 DanceSport Competition have come to an end and what a  fabulous dance season it has been for the students and instructors of Arthur Murray Dance Center, a Dayton adult dance studio. With two more competitions under our belts, our competitive team has been to the Ohio Star Ball in Columbus and the Holiday Ball Dance-O-Rama in Washington D.C.

The Dayton Stars were shining brightly during November’s Ohio Star Ball in Columbus. Sharing just one instructor, Craig Johnston and his ladies Ann Bockrath and Kim Fisher, as well as Orion and Pat Hixson, were as spectacular as shooting stars!

The final competition of 2023, the Holiday Ball Dance-O-Rama was a huge success for our own Lynne Workman and her instructor, Craig Johnston. Lynne was the recipient of the following awars:
Top Silver Student
2nd Place Standard Scholarship
2nd Place Smooth Scholarship
1st Place Rhythm Scholarship
1st Place Latin Scholarship
3rd Place All Round

About Craig Johnston: An award-winning dance professional, Craig was born and raised in Scotland, U.K., where he started his dance training at the young age of 7. As a teenager, he was offered a scholarship to London Studio Centre, a top theatre college in London, where he studied for 2 years. His passion for dance then led him to travel extensively around the world, from stage shows to Dance Captain onboard Celebrity Cruises. In 2012, Craig moved to Nashville, TN to continue his dance career based in the USA.

Since relocating to the Dayton Area in 2018, Craig has received many top teacher designations and was most recently named to the Arthur Murray International Winner’s Circle in both 2021 and 2022, recognizing him as one of the top three instructors in the Arthur Murray organization worldwide.

As the studio manager and co-ownder, Craig has been responsible for developing a competitive Dance Team that has won numerous Top Studio Awards at Arthur Murray Dance Competitions globally in 2022, while many of the Dayton Students earned the Top Student Award in their respective divisions. Craig was also instrumental in leading the Dayton team of Instructors to win the 2022 International Dance Festival and Grand Championship.

About Orion Gullett: Orion Gullett was born and raised in Santa Barbara California. He started competing in ballroom dancing with the UC Santa Barbara collegiate standard and Latin ballroom team in 2011 and served as the team’s Dance Director and Coach from 2021 – 2022. Shortly after Orion joined the Arthur Murray family where he became a very successful competitive dancer and a top teacher in the industry. A Bronze Certified Instructor, Orion joined the Arthur Murray Dayton team in 2022 where is he both an instructor and the studio Dance Director.

About Arthur Murray Dance Center of Dayton: Recipients of the 2021 and 2022 Best Arthur Murray Studio Award, Barbara Haller and her husband Tim are four-time United States Professional Ballroom Theatrical Arts Champions, with an impressive competitive and performance career. Despite their many awards, Barbara Haller states their greatest pleasure is in seeing how the dance experience at Arthur Murray alters people’s lives in such a positive way. While the Arthur Murray Dance Studios have been operating for 100 years, Tim and Barbara Haller and Co- Franchisee, Craig Johnston, are pleased to note that the Dayton Franchise has been operating continuously since 1946.
